3 Different Types of Life Goals

3 Different Types of Life GoalsDid you know that there are 3 different types of life goals? I didn’t before I became a coach with Life Success, Bob Proctor’s organization. I thought a goal was a something you envisioned for your future, planned and then worked towards its achievement.

 

When I found out there were three types of goals, I learned that goals not only needed to be SMART but had to involve the imagination. I think everyone has heard of SMART goals. SMART usually stands for:

S – Specific or significant

M – Measurable or meaningful

A – Attainable or action-oriented

R – Relevant or rewarding

T – Time-bound or trackable

Even though these tips are very helpful with setting goals, they do not address our creative potential. Here are the three types of goals:

  • A Type goals are doing something you already know how to do.
  • B Type goals are what you think you can do. If you know how to reach your goal, the goal is not going to do for you what goals are designed to do.
  • C Type goals are your wants. They come from your fantasies and are originated through the effective use of your imagination. Napoleon Hill said, “Imagination is the most marvelous, miraculous, inconceivably powerful force the world has ever known.”

Type C goals are the ones that inspire us, the ones we fantasize about but don’t know how we are going to get them. Our society is big on the how. So many of us think, based on our early schooling, that if we don’t know how we are going to get something then maybe we should let it go. We, or our relatives, friends, etc., talk us out of what we really want because it is not “realistic”. We play it safe with B Type goals and this relaxes the people around us as we are staying within our comfort zone.

Type C goals are going after something you’ve never done before. These are designed to help you grow; they cause you to draw something from yourself that you didn’t even know was there. If you really want to accomplish something, it must be something that inspires you by going after something you really want, it’s going to have to come from inside.

So the question is, what do you really want? Take the lid off your mind and dream. Really engage your imagination. I encourage you to write out at least 30 wants. Once you have them written, divide them into A, B, and C wants. Put your top 10 on the A list. Then prioritize the top 10 in order of importance. You will end up with your top A-1 goal.

Now there is a whole process that allows that energy from your imagination (your goal) to come into physical existence. I will go into that process in my next blog. Just remember if it is really a worthy goal, it is going to encourage you to grow and develop your potential and it may frighten you as well. And this is good.
